What is the tourist bus fee?

This is a fee applied to discretionary service buses that bring visitors to the city of Toledo and park in designated areas for tourist pick-up and drop-off.

Objective:

  • Improve public services.

  • Promote more sustainable and organized mobility in the historic center.

Fee based on vehicle capacity:

  • 9 to 20 seats: €25 per day

  • 21 to 54 seats: €75 per day

  • 54 seats or more: €125 per day

Designated parking/stop areas:

  • Safont Docks (Ronda del Granadal)

  • Paseo de Recaredo, next to Hacienda del Cardenal

  • San Martín Bridge

Important:

Stopping or parking in Plaza de Zocodover and its surroundings is NOT allowed.

Why is this fee implemented?

🔹 Public service maintenance: Revenue will help maintain and improve urban spaces and essential services such as cleaning, security, and tourist assistance.
🔹 Heritage protection: It will contribute to preserving the historic center and monuments by reducing tourist pressure in sensitive areas.
🔹 Sustainable mobility: Encourages less invasive and more environmentally friendly tourism by organizing bus traffic and reducing congestion in the city center.
🔹 Infrastructure improvement: Part of the revenue will be invested in modernizing transportation, signage, and visitor facilities, enhancing the tourist experience.

🔴 Exemption Management:
This procedure allows the registration of requests, detailing the following mandatory aspects:
§ Vehicle registration number.
§ Expected date of visit.
§ Supporting documentation proving the right to exemption.
Each request received will be sent directly to the Local Police registry, which is responsible for processing the resolution. Subsequently, the notification regarding the exemption resolution will be sent to the applicant through their corresponding digital mailbox.

🔴 CLARIFICATIONS ON THE PUBLIC SPACE OCCUPATION FEE FOR BUSES TRANSPORTING TOURISTS 🔴

1. Which locations are subject to the public space occupation fee for buses picking up and dropping off tourists?

Only buses stopping at the designated locations in the ordinance are required to pay the fee:

  • Ronda del Granadal

  • Hostal El Cardenal

  • San Martín Bridge

In all other locations, no fee is charged.

2. Are there any exemptions from the fee?

The following are exempt from payment, subject to exemption request:

  • School trips or excursions for minors subject to RD 443/2001 on school transport (whether school-related or discretionary).

  • Services provided by the Provincial Council.

  • Discretionary services for associations, sports clubs, social, religious, and cultural organizations based in the city of Toledo.

3. Which services are required to pay the fee in all cases?

The following services must pay the fee for parking at designated locations:

  • Discretionary services, even if the passengers are staying in a hotel in Toledo, when stopping at any of the three authorized points.

  • Discretionary services for associations, sports clubs, social, religious, and cultural organizations based outside Toledo (except school or minor groups).

  • Any discretionary service (excluding school or minor groups) stopping at one of the three authorized points.

4. Are there any special cases?

Special cases:

  • A single service using two different vehicles (one for drop-off, another for pick-up) will only pay one fee. This must be communicated via email.

  • Excursions and night visits starting after 5:00 PM and ending before 5:00 AM the following day may pay a single fee if notified in advance via email (policialocal@toledo.es).

5. Is the fee based on the vehicle’s seating capacity or the number of passengers?

The fee is applied based on the number of seats indicated on the bus’s registration certificate, not on the technical specifications.
